Build Days 185 & 186.....Scuttle and Dash
Once again, I've been tied up on other things and have not been able to get in the garage much. I have managed to spend some time over the last few weeks, though, to constitute a couple of build days.
Firstly, I have got further with the scuttle. I've cut the main parts out of aluminium and welded them together. I chose to use the MIG welder instead of the solder type stuff as I couldn't get on with it. Can't really get a good looking weld with a MIG on aluminium, but you wont see it. Just now need to wrap some thin sheet over the scuttle to finish it.
Now the scuttle shape is finalised, I could move on to the dashboard. Firstly I made a mock up out of cardboard, which allowed me to choose the optimum positions for the gauges and switches. I then cut the real one out of MDF. Additionally, there is some curved wooden pieces attached to the bottom to ensure the correct radius edge. All that is left to do is cover it in vinyl, and I can start wiring it all up:
Also made up a switch panel and separate warning light panel to fit to the dash:
