Build Days 107 & 108.....Lots of Painting

The last two days have been spent painting the chassis. It's quite a painstaking task as there are many tubes with many sides to cover. Anyway, most of the way there now. Done two coats (which should be enough) on most of the chassis. Just now need to turn it over to paint the underside:

Note that the roll bars have not been painted either. This is because they will be on show and, although the finish of the paint I'm using for the chassis is good, it's probably not perfect - Instead it's very hard wearing and rust proofing. The paint for the roll bars is less tough, but will look better.

Build Days 105 & 106.....Shiny Chassis

It's taken two days, although some of that was taken up by welding extra brackets I'd forgotten, but the chassis is now all cleaned up and ready to paint. The picture below probably doesn't do it justice as it's now very very shiny, almost like stainless steel. Won't stay like that of course, so I need to get painting:

Build Days 103 & 104.....Chassis Finished!

That's it!! Finaly the chassis is completed, having done all the welding up. I've now started on the long task of cleaning it up (with an array of different sized wire brushes) ready to paint.

Build Day 102.....Lots more welding

Well, here's the chassis complete and stripped of all the parts:

Spent a lot of time trying to fully weld up the last bits, but ran out of time - and gas :(
Should only now need a couple more hours welding to complete before I can start cleaning it up for painting.

Build Day 101.....Radiator Mounts

Today I completed the radiator mounts. I did this by first making up some plates to attached the fan to the radiator. Incedently, the fan is from the Rover donor and the radiator (which I bought new off e-bay) is from a VW polo. Using some tube, I then attached these plates to the chassis:

So here is the finished result:

And that's the chassis complete!!!! Well, apart from one final weld up of all the tacked on bits. I'll be stripping the chassis bear of the engine etc tomorrow to get the welding under way.

Build Days 99 & 100.....Bits and Bobs

This weekend has been spent just biting and bobbing with the car. I'm really waiting to get a nose cone so I can make the radiator and intercooler brackets - the final part of the chassis. Anyway, what I did do was I added some cross pieces at the back of the chassis, onto which the fuel tank will sit. I then added some extra bracing at the front of the chassis. I also started some minor modifications to the de-dion beam, prior to painting it.

I hope to be collecting a nose cone tomorrow, so hopefully the chassis will soon be complete.
