Build Day 55.....Off the Ground and Upside Down

Got a lot of welding done today. Managed to finish the top and sides and have now lifted the chassis, placed it upside down and have started the welding underneath:

Big thanks also to Keith for lending me his big cylinder of Argon gas (as seen in the shot above). Does work better than the CO2 I have been using up till now.

Build Day 54.....Back to the garage

Managed to get back into the garage this afternoon after the Christmas festivities. It was also a good way of getting out of the way while my wife caught up on all the soaps she'd taped over christmas and boxing day.

Anyway, more welding now done. Nearly finished the top and sides. Almost at the point now where I will need to turn the chassis upside down to weld the bottom.

Build Day 53.....Last Bit Of Work Before Christmas

Had probably the last chance today to do some work before Christmas. Got quite a bit more welding done, but still loads more to do.

Build Day 52.....More Welding

Managed to get some more welding gas at the weekend, so I was back in the garage this evening doing more welding. I'd also bought some more welding wire as well. Good job as the old reel ran out almost immediately after I'd started.

So more of the full welding is now done, but there is still a lot to do yet....

Build Day 51.....Welding

Started fully welding the chassis as planned. Not a lot to say really, apart from it's coming along nicely, although I had to stop early as my gas ran out.

Build Day 50.....A Milestone

I’ve achieved a bit of a milestone today (and I’ve just realised it’s happened on day 50 as well!). I’ve managed to complete the bracing in the engine bay which means the chassis is now ready to be fully welded up. The engine bay does look rather odd as the bracing is all asymmetrical, but this will allow the engine to fit while optimising strength and rigidity:

Build Day 49.....Engine In - Well, sort of.

Today I managed to place the engine temporarily into the engine bay. This was firstly to check it fits and secondly to check it wont foul any of the last few bars Im adding to brace the engine bay prior to fully welding the chassis.

As you can see, it does fit:

The only issue is that there would not be enough room for the oil filter:

I've since moved this bar further forward in the chassis:
